Telkom SA is the incumbent telecom carrier in South Africa. The former government monopoly maintains 4.5 million access lines providing local access, long-distance, and data network services. It also operates South Africa's leading wireless carrier, Vodacom, a 50%-owned subsidiary with 23 million customers in South Africa and about 7 million elsewhere. (UK-based Vodafone Group owns the other half.)
