The privately-owned telecommunications carrier provides wired phone, cable TV, and Internet services for residential and business customers through subsidiaries such as CommuniGroup. TEC's rural local-exchange service reach include areas of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The company also provides long-distance interexchange services. TEC was founded in 1923 with the purchase of local phone company Bay Springs Telephone Company, which had about 100 customers tied to its switchboard.
