The Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas provides retirement, health care, and other benefits to educators and other employees of more than 1,000 independent public school districts, as well as universities, community colleges, junior colleges, and medical and dental schools in the Lone Star State. One of the largest pension plans in the nation, TRS serves more than 1.2 million active and retired members and has approximately $100 billion under management in its pension trust fund. It is overseen by a board of trustees appointed by the Texas governor.
