Teacher Retirement System Of Texas · Austin, TX United States
Company Description
T is for Texas and teachers, too. The Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas provides retirement, health care, and other benefits to educators and other employees of the Lone Star State's more than 1,000 independent public school districts, as well as universities, community colleges, junior colleges, and medical and dental schools. TRS serves more than 1.2 million active and retired members with more than $81 billion under management in its pension trust fund; almost two-thirds of that is invested in domestic and international equities. In 2007 the company added hedge funds to its investment mix despite the risk, and divested holdings in companies that do business in Iran, at the behest of Texas lawmakers.
