As the largest company of its kind in China, it has nearly 30 million active users who visit its virtual worlds (including Seer and Mole's World) to explore and learn. Subscription fees and sales of virtual items for use in the worlds bring in the majority of revenue. Offline, Taomee's characters appear in books, magazines, TV, film, and live performances and, of course, in a line of merchandise. The company also licenses its characters to makers of everything from beverages to kids' apparel. Taomee was formed in 2007 and went public in 2011.
