Retail warrior Takashimaya Company has the honor of being Japan's oldest department store chain. Takashimaya has 20 stores throughout Japan and three overseas (New York, Singapore, and Taiwan); it also sells its products through catalogs and has its own credit card. In addition to its department stores, which account for 90% of revenue, the company is involved in shopping center development, consumer finance, and other businesses through 30-plus subsidiaries. To boost sales, Takashimaya is renovating some of its stores and organizes cultural and art exhibitions at its stores.
