Swedish Health Services serves Seattle and the surrounding area through five acute care hospitals (and another in the works) as well as a an emergency care and specialty center, multiple primary care clinics, and a home health services unit. The health system also operates a physician group and a number of specialty clinics all operating under the Swedish Health moniker. In total the organization's hospitals are home to nearly 1,250 beds. Medical specialties include cardiac care, neurosurgery, cancer treatment, orthopedics, pediatrics, and women's health. Not-for-profit Swedish Health began in 1910 as a single hospital with 24 beds.
