Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. (SSTL) takes a learned approach to making satellites. The company designs and builds small communications and scientific satellites. SSTL has mission design, satellite platform, payload development, spacecraft operation, and data analysis expertise, so the company can take a project from the drawing board through to completion. Its Disaster Monitoring Constellation, managed by spinoff company DMC International Imaging, is a series of four satellites launched in 2004 to monitor natural and man-made disasters and environmental damage such as the damage caused by the 2004 tsunami and the fires in California.
