Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG) is the holding company for Sumitomo Mitsui Banking, which is the third-largest bank in Japan behind Mitsubishi UFJ and Mizuho . The bank's operations include retail, corporate, and investment banking, asset management, securities trading, and loans. Sumitomo Mitsui Banking has some 500 domestic branches and about 20 international offices. SMFG also owns a handful of other companies, including The Japan Research Institute, which provides management consulting, IT services, and data processing; Sumitomo Mitsui Card; Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing; and SMBC Friend Securities.
