South Africa's Steinhoff International Holdings (SIH) is a diversified manufacturer and wholesaler of furniture and other household goods whose reach extends beyond Africa, to Europe, India, and the Pacific Rim. The company's holdings include Steinhoff Africa, which is engaged in timber and other raw materials sourcing, furniture and mattress manufacturing, auto and building supplies retail, and logistics. Its Steinhoff's Europe division ranks among the largest furniture and household goods suppliers in Europe, where it sells upholstered furniture and beds. SIH was founded in 1964. It acquired PPR's Conforama chain of furniture and appliance stores for €1.2 billion (about $1.6 billion) in early 2011.
