Company Description
The status of Statoil (formerly StatoilHydro) is that it is Norway's oil and gas exploration, production, transport, refining, and marketing giant. Statoil operates in 40 countries, focusing its upstream activities in 22 of them, primarily on the Norwegian continental shelf, the North Sea, the Caspian Sea, Western Africa, the US, and Venezuela. One of the world's top exploration and production companies, in 2009 the company reported proved reserves of 5.4 billion barrels of oil equivalent. It indirectly operates a network of 2,300 gas stations in Scandinavia, Poland, and the Baltic States. Statoil also supplies electricity in Norway and Sweden and is engaged in green energy development (wind and biofuels).
