A group of Tennessee doctors established the company in the 1970s to provide coverage that other insurers were increasingly discontinuing. In addition to providing basic liability protection, the founders wanted to build a company that provided loss prevention and risk management services and training for its policyholders. SVMIC is active in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee (which accounts for more than half of its business), and Virginia.
