Founded in 1971 as a small civil rights law firm, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing tolerance through education and, when or if that fails, litigation. The center provides legal services to minorities and the poor while its Intelligence Project monitors hate groups in the US. SPLC's quarterly Intelligence Report is distributed to more than 60,000 law enforcement officials. The organization also operates Tolerance.org, a collection of online resources for those fighting bigotry in their own communities.
