Is there a place for a passenger railroad operator in a land of legendary freeways (and legendary traffic jams)? Yes, says the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA). The SCRRA operates Metrolink, a regional rail system that offers transportation for commuters and other passengers. Metrolink trains serve more than 55 stations in the greater Los Angeles area on several regional lines, including Antelope Valley, Orange County, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura County. Overall, Metrolink operates over a network of about 510 miles of track, including lines controlled by other entities. The SCRRA was established in 1991; operations began the next year.
