Company Description

Sogo & Seibu Co., Ltd. (formerly Millennium Retailing) is the department store arm of Japan's biggest retail conglomerate Seven & i Holdings. Formed by the 2009 merger of Millennium Retailing, Sogo, and Seibu, the newly-formed holding company operates some 15 Seibu and about a dozen Sogo department stores and ranks as one of the largest operators of department stores in Japan. The merger was effected to capitalize on the well-known Sogo and Seibu names, reduce costs, and to foster collaboration with Seven & i as the Japanese department store industry struggles with weak personal consumption. Predecessor Millennium Retailing was formed by the merger of Seibu Department Stores and Sogo Co. in 2003.
