Company Description
Sofidra has gotten down and dirty on more beaches than Jimmy Buffett. As one of the world's largest marine engineering companies, the company, which does business as Jan De Nul, has operations around the world in dredging, trenching, land reclamation, and civil engineering for port and harbor maintenance, infrastructure, offshore oil and gas services, and environmental remediation for concerns such as coastal erosion. It has a fleet of about 65 major vessels and is spending €1.5 billion ($2.1 billion) to build about 20 more. Jan De Nul was founded in 1938 by Mr. Jan De Nul and expanded into dredging in 1951. It is controlled by the founder's sons, Jan Pieter and Dirk De Nul.
