For Silver Wheaton, an ounce can be equal to quite a few pounds, or any other form of currency you wish to choose. The company annually obtains 15 million ounces of silver from mines in Greece, Mexico, Peru, and Sweden. It has proved and probable silver reserves of about 275 million ounces. Silver Wheaton's silver is purchased from Goldcorp's Luismin mine in Mexico, Glencore's Peruvian Yauliyacu mine, European Goldfields' Stratoni mine in Greece, and Lundin's Zinkgruvan mine in Sweden. The company operates by purchasing silver produced as a by-product of gold mining, and it is the world's-largest purely silver company. Goldcorp owned two-thirds of the company until it sold its stake on the open market in 2008. To read the full description, subscribe now.

Competition

Competitive Landscape for Silver Wheaton Corp.
Demand is driven by industrial demand and economic growth, both domestic and foreign. Individual company profitability depends on volume and operating efficiency. Large companies can afford to discover and develop new deposits and increase reserves. Small companies typically own just one mine, limit exploration to that one property, and operate it as efficiently as possible. Metal ore mining is capital-intensive: annual revenue per employee is about $300,000. The industry includes companies that mine and process gold, silver, copper, nickel, lead, zinc, iron ore, and other metals. To read the full description, subscribe now.
