While its full name is Shands Teaching Hospital and Clinics, most folks call it Shands HealthCare. The network, affiliated with the University of Florida Health Science Center, provides health care services to patients in north-central and northeast Florida. The company is made up of seven not-for-profit acute care, community, and specialty hospitals, as well as more than 80 physician practices and outpatient rehabilitation centers. It also operates a home health care agency. The Shands network has some 2,000 licensed beds and about 1,000 affiliated University of Florida doctors. Specialty services include oncology, pediatrics, cardiovascular, transplants, and neurological care.
