Sequoia Healthcare District (SHD) wants people to grow as old as the redwoods. The organization provides healthcare support for Redwood City, California and six other communities in the immediate area. Though it sold Sequoia Hospital to Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), SHD still operates the hospital, providing administrative and leadership support. The two organizations (CHW and SHD) are in the process of rebuilding the hospital to make it earthquake safe. SHD also provides grants and administrative oversight for health and wellness programs, community-based clinics, and health provider educational programs. The Sequoia Healthcare District was founded in 1996.
