Company Description

"4G" is pronounced "Sequans" in French. Sequans Communications is France's only designer, developer, and supplier of 4G wireless communication chips. Its WiMAX chips enable smartphones to provide broadband wireless access. Sequans sold 4.6 million chips 2010, primarily to Taiwanese handset manufacturer HTC, which accounted for two-thirds of sales that year. Partnering with Alcatel and Motorola, the company debuted its first LTE chip in March 2010 for China Mobile. As a fabless company, Sequans uses TSMC in Taiwan to manufacture its products, UTAC for testing, and generates almost 90% of its sales in Asia. Founded in 2003, Sequans went public in IPO worth $110 million in 2011.
