    It took more than nine decades, but Sensata Technologies finally is an overnight sensation. Founded in 1916 as General Plate Company, supplying gold plate to jewelers, Sensata is a global manufacturer of customized electrical and electronic sensors and controls. It joined Texas Instruments in 1959, operating as TI's Sensors & Controls unit, before going independent in a 2006 buyout by Bain Capital. Sensata's diverse lineup is used in aircraft, appliances, car engines, climate control systems, industrial devices, and lighting to regulate their operation, based on changes in air flow, pressure, and temperature.
