Company Description
It took decades, but Sensata is finally an overnight sensation. Founded in 1916 as General Plate Company, supplying gold plate to jewelers, the company is a global manufacturer of customized electrical and electronic sensors and controls. It joined Texas Instruments in 1959, operating as TI's Sensors & Controls unit, before going private in a 2006 buyout by Bain Capital. Sensata offers a diverse lineup of some 20,000 products used in aircraft, appliances, car engines, military, heavy vehicle, HVAC, data and telecommunications, recreational vehicle, and marine applications. Nearly two-thirds of sales come from customers outside the US.
