Company Description
SeniorNet teaches older people to surf. The group schools adults over 50 in using computers and exploring the Internet through about 240 learning centers in some 40 states, as well as in Japan, Malaysia, and Sweden. Classes cover introduction to the Web, HTML, genealogy searches, desktop publishing, and financial software. It also sponsors online communities and discussion boards, publishes a quarterly newsletter and educational materials, offers discounts on computers, and hosts conferences on older adults and technology. SeniorNet came to life out of a 1986 research project funded by the Markle Foundation to see how computers and telecommunications could improve the lives of seniors.
