Business is smokin' at Schweitzer-Mauduit International (SWM), one of the world's leading suppliers of fine papers to the tobacco industry. About 90% of its sales come from tobacco-related products, including cigarette wraps, plug wraps (used to wrap filters), and tipping paper (used to join the filter to the rest of the cigarette), low ignition propensity (fire-safe) cigarettes, as well as reconstituted tobacco leaf (RTL) -- virgin tobacco blended by cigarette manufacturers. Non-tobacco lines comprise a mix of products, from drinking-straw wrappers to lightweight printing paper and business forms. SWM markets its lineup in Europe, the Americas, and Asia, garnering about 70% of its sales outside the US.
