Company Description
Just what does Sara Lee like? Apparently not apparel, personal care, household products, fresh baked goods, or cold dough. All these operations have been, or soon will be, sold as the iconic cheesecake company refashions its business. Its North American Retail unit is a top maker of packaged meat (Ball Park, Jimmy Dean) and frozen bakery items, including cheesecake. The North American Foodservice segment supplies coffee, meat, and baked goods to food service operators. Sara Lee International oversees coffee, tea, and bakery sales in Europe, Australia, and Brazil. To further slim down, in late 2011 Sara Lee announced plans to sell its North American Foodservice coffee and tea operations to The J. M. Smucker Company for around $400 million.
