When it comes to paper products, Sappi Limited is actually unlimited. The company is one of the world's top producers of coated fine papers, such as those used in catalogs, magazines, brochures, and annual reports, among many applications. Fine paper, both coated and uncoated, is the company's principal product; over 5 million tons of paper are churned out annually. Sappi is also a giant producer of chemical cellulose, used to make acetate tow and viscose fibre. The company owns and manages forestland, too. The Forest Products division produces bleached, unbleached kraft pulp, dissolving pulp, containerboard, packaging paper, sawn timber, and newsprint. Products are routed to emerging markets by Sappi Trading. To read the full description, subscribe now.

    Competition

    Competitive Landscape for Sappi Limited
Timber is harvested to make paper or wood products (mainly lumber and plywood). Residential construction and repair/remodeling account for nearly 70 percent of all lumber used in the US. Demand for paper is driven partly by the general health of the economy, which influences demand for office papers, cardboard boxes, newspapers, magazines, and tissue papers. Large logging companies can have a cost advantage over smaller ones through the use of more efficient (and more expensive) machinery, but logging is a very local activity, often without significant economies of scale. To read the full description, subscribe now.
