Santa Fe Gold hopes it has the Midas touch. In 2006 the company, previously called AZCO Mining, bought Lordsburg Mining Company from Imagin Minerals; the deal brought the company the Summit silver-gold mining project in New Mexico. Santa Fe Gold immediately began to develop further the Summit property as well as the Ortiz gold property, also located in New Mexico. With an increased emphasis on those two projects, Santa Fe Gold transformed itself into a precious metals miner. Its focus had been on the Black Canyon mica project in Arizona, though those operations had been idle since 2002. Competitive Landscape for Santa Fe Gold Corporation
Demand is driven by industrial demand and economic growth, both domestic and foreign. Individual company profitability depends on volume and operating efficiency. Large companies can afford to discover and develop new deposits and increase reserves. Small companies typically own just one mine, limit exploration to that one property, and operate it as efficiently as possible. Metal ore mining is capital-intensive: annual revenue per employee is about $300,000. The industry includes companies that mine and process gold, silver, copper, nickel, lead, zinc, iron ore, and other metals.
