Redbox wants to muscle its way into budget-conscious movie renters' hearts. Making waves in an industry dominated by Netflix and Blockbuster, Redbox offers an alternative: it places its red kiosks at select McDonald's, supermarkets, and discount stores. Customers can rent movies at the automated kiosk for $1 per night (with no late fees) or they can reserve online and pick the movie up at the kiosk. Movies can be returned to any Redbox machine and no membership is required. The fast-growing company, which boasts more than 15,400 kiosks nationwide (with each kiosk holding some 700 discs and 200 titles), plans to more than double that number by 2012.
