QLT's drugs respond to a light touch. The company develops pharmaceuticals that are activated when exposed to light. Its main product Visudyne, developed and marketed with Novartis' ophthalmic division, fights a type of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of blindness. Visudyne is administered through a two-stage intravenous and laser treatment process. The drug is approved in more than 80 countries.
