Prospect Capital (formerly Prospect Energy) is a closed-end investment company focused on prospecting for... riches! The company was founded by fomer senior managers of Merrill Lynch with an interest in underperforming energy-related businesses. However, it changed its name from Prospect Energy in 2007 to reflect a broadening interest in non-energy investments. (It has since then invested in food and health care technology companies, among others.) Prospect targets middle-market companies with annual revenues of less than $500 million, typically participating in transactions of no greater than $250 million. It invests in mezzanine loans and equity securities of private or thinly traded public companies. To read the full description, subscribe now.
