Preferred Health Systems (PHS) is the managed care organization of choice for Kansas businesses. Through its operating companies Preferred Plus of Kansas and Preferred Health Systems Insurance, the company provides HMO, POS, and PPO health plans, as well as a high-deductible plan combined with a health savings account. It also offers Medicare supplemental health plans. PHS provides group plans to about 120,000 employer groups  on a fully-insured or administrative services only model; it is one of several companies that administers the health coverage of Kansas state employees. The company was acquired by Coventry Health Care in 2010; it was previously part of Via Christi Health System.
