Popeyes hopes its fried chicken will shiver your timbers. Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits is the operating division of AFC Enterprises that oversees its chain of quick-service chicken restaurants. Ranking only behind YUM! Brands' KFC, the chain boasts more than 1,900 locations (some operating under the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen banner) in the US and about two dozen other countries. Popeyes serves up Cajun-style fried chicken, biscuits, po'boys, chicken strips and other fixin's. More than 50 locations are company-owned, the rest are operated by franchisees. Al Copeland started the company as a single Chicken on the Run restaurant in New Orleans in 1972. AFC bought the company in 1993. To read the full description, subscribe now.

Competitive Landscape for Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits
Demographics, consumer tastes, and personal income drive demand. The profitability of individual companies can vary: while QSRs rely on efficient operations and high volume sales, FSRs rely on high-margin items and effective marketing. Large companies have advantages in purchasing, finance, and marketing. Small companies can offer superior food or service. The industry is highly labor-intensive: annual revenue per worker is between $40,000 and $45,000. Restaurants compete with companies that serve meals or prepared foods, including grocery stores, warehouse clubs, delis, and convenience stores. In addition, restaurants compete with home cooking. To read the full description, subscribe now.
