It's a plane, it's a boat, it's a muffin. Plane Boats owns and operates the Cosmic Muffin, a boat made from a plane, available for charter in the Fort Lauderdale area for parties, meetings, and corporate events. The Cosmic Muffin was not only owned by Howard Hughes in its previous incarnation as a Boeing 307 Stratoliner, but was also written into Jimmy Buffet's first novel Where Is Joe Merchant? and featured in his song Desdemona's Building a Rocket Ship. Plane Boats also sells related merchandise and rents out advertising space on the Cosmic Muffin. Owner Dave Drimmer purchased the craft in 1981 and took 15 years turning it into a floating plane palace worthy of song and story. To read the full description, subscribe now.

Competitive Landscape for Plane Boats, Inc.
Demand is driven by business and tourist travel, which depends on the economy. The profitability of individual companies depends on marketing. Large companies have an advantage in being able to provide a wider range of services, especially to corporate customers, and to afford sophisticated websites. Small companies can compete effectively by providing service to a few large customers or by serving a local market. Despite automation, the industry remains labor-intensive; average annual revenue per employee at traditional travel agencies is just $75,000. Two major factors have shaped the industry in recent years: sophisticated pricing schemes developed by the airlines to maximize profitability, and the emergence of the Internet as a widely available information and booking tool. To read the full description, subscribe now.
