This team provides Philly sports fans with high-flying action on the ice. One of the more colorful franchises in the National Hockey League, the Philadelphia Flyers joined the ranks of professional hockey in 1967 and won back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 1974 and 1975. The team boasts a dedicated following at Philadelphia's Wachovia Center (which it shares with the Philadelphia 76ers) despite the lack of championship titles since. Its history includes such Hall of Fame greats as Bill Barber and Bobby Clarke. Chairman Ed Snider and cable giant Comcast own the Flyers through Comcast Spectacor, which also owns the 76ers and the Wachovia Center. To read the full description, subscribe now.

Competitive Landscape for Philadelphia Flyers, L.P.
Demand is driven by consumer income and corporate entertainment spending. The profitability of individual teams depends on achieving high fan attendance and a large TV audience, both of which are enhanced by effective marketing and competitive play. Teams in large metropolitan areas have advantages in the population base and TV audience they can draw on, though they may face competition from other teams. Teams in smaller markets, along with less popular sports and minor league teams, can compete by building fan loyalty through local marketing promotions and an appeal to civic pride.
