Company Description
Penn West Petroleum (formerly Penn West Energy Trust) is pumping oil from Western Canada, with the hope of keeping black ink flowing from its auditor's pen. The independent exploration and production company has holdings of 6.3 million net acres of undeveloped land in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. In 2010 the company reported net proved and probable reserves of 661 million barrels of oil equivalent. Penn West focuses on reinvesting cash flow into opportunities for internal development and external acquisitions. This strategy includes maintaining a substantial capital program. In 2011 the company converted from a trust to a corporation to secure stronger returns to shareholders.
