Company Description

The motto for Penn Virginia Resource Partners (PVR) could be "Baby, it's coal outside." The firm manages coal properties for energy company Penn Virginia Corporation. It leases mining rights on its properties to third-party mine operators, collecting royalties based on the amount of coal produced and the price at which it is sold. Its land contains nearly 900 million tons of proven or probable reserves (mostly low-sulfur bituminous coal). However, most of PVR's revenue comes from natural gas processing and collection. The company operates seven processing facilities and more than 4,400 miles of pipeline in Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Texas. PVR acquired general partner Penn Virginia GP Holdings in 2011.
