It's tough to make "virtually indestructible" gear, but Pelican Products works to do just that. It designs and makes technically advanced flashlights and high-impact watertight cases. Its plastic- and metal-encased flashlights are sold in the US via specialty retailers, such as Grainger and REI. Pelican's top customer, however, is the military, which uses its cases to secure electronics, medical supplies, and weapons. Pelican operates in about a dozen countries and boasts six manufacturing plants worldwide. Its Peli Products unit does business in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. The company, founded by husband-and-wife team Dave and Arline Parker in 1976, is owned by private equity firm Behrman Capital.
