The companies in the group -- Pearl Assurance, London Life, and NPI -- don't sell insurance themselves, but instead buy up blocks of life insurance policies and pension products from other insurers (called closed life funds). It has more than 3.5 million policies in force and has an in-house asset and risk management unit, Axial Investment Management, that invests and oversees the funds. Sun Capital Partners and TDR Capital own the majority of Pearl Group.
