Marine transportation company Pacific Basin Shipping hauls dry bulk cargo and provides towage and ro-ro or roll-on, roll-off services. (Shipping containers roll on and off the vessels on chassis; hence the "ro-ro."). The company maintains a fleet of about 100 Handysize and Handymax vessels with an overall capacity of more than 3.9 million deadweight tons (DWT), some 30 tugs and barges, and half a dozen ro-ros. Pacific Basin's vessels are chartered on both short-term and long-term contracts to transport commodities such as forest products, cement, fertilizer, iron and steel products, and grains. The company does business primarily in the Asia/Pacific region.
