Oneida knows its place at the table. Once one of the world's largest makers of stainless steel and silver-plated flatware, Oneida now designs and supplies flatware, dinnerware, and crystal for both consumers and the foodservice and institutional markets. Its facilities dot the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, and China. Flatware accounts for more than half of sales. Other tabletop items are cutlery and kitchen utensils and gadgets, as well as baby keepsake gifts. Subsidiary Kenwood Silver operates about 15 Oneida outlet stores. Overwhelmed by debt, Oneida filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2006, emerging later that year backed by a group of investors. Private equity Monomoy Capital bought Oneida in 2011.
