Oclaro (formerly Bookham) integrates the light processing functions of optical networking components onto silicon chips, which it then puts into communications products such as transceivers, transponders, transmitters, receivers, and multiplexers. Typical devices for dividing wavelengths of light combine several components, such as tunable lasers, lenses, and filters. The company shifted its emphasis away from passive optical components (which respond to light but do not generate light) to active optical components. North America accounts for nearly half of sales.
