The school offers about 130 baccalaureate degree programs and nearly 100 graduate degree and certificate programs. Oakland University was founded in 1957 by Alfred and Matilda Wilson, who donated $2 million and their 1,500-acre estate to Michigan State University to start a new college in Oakland County.
