Company Description

Numonyx, once a joint venture of Intel and STMicroelectronics, made NOR flash memory devices, which are used in mobile phones, digital still cameras, MP3 players, and PCs. Intel and STMicro combined their unprofitable flash memory businesses in 2008 in the hope that economies of scale will improve the bottom line. Francisco Partners Management invested $150 million to help get the joint venture off the ground. In 2010 Micron Technology acquired Numonyx in a $1.2 billion, all-stock transaction. Later that year Numonyx sold its minority stake in a joint venture with Hynix to Hynix for about $423 million.
