Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) powers up nationalists and unionists and those of no persuasion alike. The power utility, owned by Irish power utility Electricity Supply Board, provides regulated electricity transmission, distribution, and supply services to more than 820,000 residential and business customers in Northern Ireland. Its NIE Transmission and Distribution unit owns and operates the electricity network in Northern Ireland. It operates 2,170 km of transmission lines, 43,500 km of the distribution lines, and 250 major substations. The company's Powerteam unit provides high-voltage electrical infrastructure contracting and maintenance services for NIE and customers in Northern Ireland and elsewhere.
