Company Description
Norway and groceries are key to NorgesGruppen. The company is Norway's largest grocery retailer with some 1,975 stores, about 565 of which are company owned, under more than a dozen banners. It is the country's #1 supermarket operator with stores nationwide under the Meny (large supermarkets), KIWI (discount stores), and SPAR banners. NorgesGruppen also taps other retail markets through the regional supermarket chain Ultra, as well as convenience stores (Fresh, MIX). Its ASKO group of about a dozen companies is Norway's leading grocery wholesaler. Founded in 1994, the group is made up of independent retailers. The Norwegian business group Joh. Johannson owns about two-thirds of NorgesGruppen.
