Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK, also called Japan Broadcasting Corporation) is Japan's publicly funded broadcasting service. The company operates five television channels, including terrestrial networks Educational TV and General TV, offering cultural and educational programming, along with news and entertainment. It also broadcasts on three public radio services. NHK has 54 stations throughout Japan. Internationally, the company offers NHK World TV and NHK World Radio Japan; it produces news in 18 languages and has about 30 bureaus around the world. NHK gets nearly all of its funding through fees paid regularly by every Japanese household.
