National Semiconductor (UK) is a key part of its parent's international presence. The company, which is a subsidiary of big analog chip maker National Semiconductor, began producing microchips in 1970. Through its wafer fabrication facility in Greenock, Scotland, it produces power management, standard analog, and semi-custom semiconductors used in cars, computers, consumer electronic devices, industrial equipment, and telecommunications gear. A lawsuit brought by employees of the Greenock fab, claiming that toxic chemicals used in the facility had harmed unborn children, was settled in early 2006.
