A component of the Department of Justice, the National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC) is the federal clearinghouse for strategic domestic counter-drug intelligence. The NDIC's major functions include the development and dissemination of strategic intelligence assessments focusing on production, trafficking, and abuse of illicit drugs, as well as abuse of legal drugs; supporting national drug investigations and initiatives by providing real-time operational intelligence; providing intelligence training and technical assistance; and facilitating intelligence sharing within the law enforcement community.
