If you're flying north of the US and south of the North Pole, you'll be hearing from NAV CANADA. The company operates Canada's civil air navigation system, providing air traffic control and flight information services. It has eight area control centers and more than 40 control towers. Revenue comes from fees paid by airlines and other aircraft operators. A group of Canada's airlines, air controllers, and business jet operators collaborated in 1995 to create NAV CANADA as a private company without shareholders, but with the ability to issue bonds. It acquired the nation's civil air navigation system from the Canadian government in 1996.
