Company Description
You wouldn't think a city as quiet and unassuming as New York would go in for tooting its own cultural and historical horn, but that it does at the corner of Fifth Ave. and 103rd. The Museum of the City of New York (MCNY) is modestly dedicated to preserving the history of the City So Nice They Named It A Second Time. MCNY can boast -- not that it would, being from New York and all -- strong collections in photography, theater history, and of Currier and Ives hand-colored lithographs. The MCNY also awards the Gotham Giant award to "New Yorkers whose contributions to the life of the city stand out and merit recognition." The museum was founded in Gracie Mansion in 1923, and moved to its current location in 1932.
