Company Description

Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) may have subdued Netscape in the "browser wars" of the 1990s, but Mozilla's Firefox rose from the ashes with renewed vigor. Firefox has clawed market share away from IE over the years (now at about 25%) only to now be harassed itself by the meteoric rise of Google's Chrome, being overtaken by the browser in usage share at the end of 2011. The Mozilla Foundation was created in 2003 to carry on the open-source development work of the mozilla.org project (spun off from Netscape in 1998). For-profit subsidiary Mozilla Corporation (spun off in 2005) oversees product development, marketing, and distribution.
