Methodist Hospitals of Dallas (which does business as Methodist Health System) serves the health care needs of northern Texas. The church-affiliated organization operates four hospitals and a number of clinics and medical facilities in and around the "Big D." The original hospital, Methodist Dallas Medical Center, opened in 1927. The 515-bed teaching and referral hospital boasts a Level II trauma center and an organ transplant program. Other facilities include the Methodist Charlton Medical Center, a 300-bed hospital that opened in 1975; the 80-bed Methodist Mansfield Medical Center; and the 200-bed Methodist Richardson Medical Center.
